We explored tissue-characteristic modeling of hot plate, thermal imaging, and thermal dosimetry in human breast tissue. The tissue-characteristic factors were taken from our previous model (Dae et al., Biomaterials, 32, 1197-1204, 2011). Commercially available nude mice and human breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231) were used to analyze the thermal properties of the tissues. The amount of heat transferred through the breast tissues at the surface area of the hot plate was measured using a thermal imaging camera and found to be dependent on the tissue-characteristic factors. The surface temperature of the tissues (thermal radiation from the surface) was measured by a thermal camera. When thermal radiation from the surface of the tissue is below a certain threshold, the tissue temperature follows the temperature of the surface. The threshold can be calculated by measuring the tissue temperature for different times. Our results showed that the tissue temperature increased with an increase in the heating time for both tissues. The heating time to reach the surface temperature of 42.8 °C was less than 10 s for nude mouse skin, MDA-MB-231 tissue and human tissue. The time to reach the threshold temperature was less than 50 s for nude mouse and MDA-MB-231 tissues, but longer for human breast tissues (70 s). These data suggested that there are significant differences in the thermal properties between the nude mouse and human breast tissues, and the nude mouse skin and breast tissue may be a suitable substitute for human breast tissue in heat flow modeling. The tissue-characteristic factors for modeling the hot plate and thermal dosimetry based on human breast tissue were developed. The thermal properties of breast tissues, especially in human tissues, were found to differ significantly from those of nude mice. The mean tissue temperature increased with an increase in the heating time to reach the surface temperature, but the tissue temperature reached its maximum in only a short time.Thresholds for auditory fatigue in the early detection of hearing impairment in school children.
